Whatstandwell & Alderwasley Community Action Group (WACAG) is a group of like-minded residents who are concerned about the redevelopment of Haytop Country Park caravan site at Whatstandwell, Derbyshire. For over 60 years the park was a quiet, rural holiday destination used on a seasonal basis. Country Wide Park Homes bought Haytop in 2016 and evicted long-standing caravan owners at short notice. In the Spring of 2017 the new site owner illegally destroyed more than 120 trees protected by Preservation Order despite being told to stop by council officials. That behaviour alarmed many local residents and some of us decided to form an action group to monitor activities and try to ensure that any developments would be sympathetic to the environment and location in the setting of The Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site.
